Ron Gustafson’s Gift Annuities Provide Income and Support Future Bearcats

Gift Annuities Pay Income to You and Ensure Support for Future Bearcats

Ron Gustafson ’64Ron Gustafson ’64 is a man of many talents. He enjoyed a long career in business and information technology, owned multiple investment properties, and was a nationally ranked roller skater for much of his young life. Although skating was a family affair (he co-owned a roller rink with his brothers), Ron gained at Willamette much of what he learned and applied throughout his successful life.

“I loved my time at Willamette,” says Ron. “Those wonderful hours spent in Chester Luther’s classes where he made perfectly clear the most intricate and detailed essence of mathematics.” It served him well throughout a career that saw him working for organizations across the globe as diverse as the U.S. Department of Defense and General Motors.

Upon retirement, Gustafson didn’t slow down—he just shifted his focus. He travels extensively and is a history buff. Over the years, he’s stepped away from some of his properties, investing in a different type of fund that provides him with income for life and tax benefits and supports Willamette.

“I have multiple charitable gift annuities with Willamette,” says Ron. “They all start paying on different dates, so my income from them will grow over the years as I slow down on other income-generating endeavors.”

Although this has been a savvy financial decision for Ron, his ultimate goal is to support future generations of Bearcats. “I received scholarships from Willamette as a student, and I view my gift annuities as payback for that support,” he says.
